2012/03/21

On March 21, 2012, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed K. Amr in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on China-Egypt relations and the regional and international issues of common concern.

Yang said that China and Egypt have always extended mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual support since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties. The foundation of bilateral relations is solid, the connotation of bilateral ties is rich and the bilateral cooperation in various fields is fruitful. China is willing to work with Egypt to promote the development of the bilateral strategic partnership. Amr noted that Egypt cherishes the traditional friendship with China and expects to continue to strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation with China and raise the bilateral strategic partnership to a higher level.

Concerning the Syrian issue, the two sides believe that the Syrian parties concerned should immediately stop violent conflicts, start political dialogue and ease the humanitarian situation. The international community should respect the independent choice of the Syrian people, adhere to the direction of political solution, support the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States Kofi Annan's mediation efforts, maintain peace and stability in Syria and the Middle East and promote the just, peaceful and proper solution of the Syrian issue as soon as possible.
