Wu Bangguo Meets with Indonesian President Susilo
On the afternoon of March 23, 2012, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the NPC Standing Committee met with Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the Great Hall of the People.
Wu said that China and Indonesia are friendly neighbors across the sea. Since the establishment of strategic partnership in 2005, the cooperation in various fields has been deepened with the joint efforts of both sides. In the political field, the bilateral strategic mutual trust has been continuously strengthened. In the economic sector, despite the international financial crisis, economic and trade cooperation has maintained a good momentum of development and bilateral exchanges have also made significant progress in the fields of security and humanities. China and Indonesia, both influential countries in the Asia-Pacific region and fast-growing emerging economies, are facing the same development tasks and external environment. It is necessary to further strengthen cooperation and jointly cope with challenges to promote common development. China attaches great importance to developing relations with Indonesia, he said, expressing belief that President Susilo's visit will give new impetus to the continued development of bilateral ties.
Wu said the NPC, the Indonesian Parliament, the People's Consultative Assembly and the Regional Representatives Council have forged sound cooperation and made contributions to the development of the China-Indonesia strategic partnership in recent years. Wu expressed his hope that the legislative bodies of the two countries will carry forward the tradition of cooperation, meet the need of deepening the ties and conform to both peoples' aspiration to enhance friendship. He urged both sides to keep close contacts, promote pragmatic cooperation and work together to vitalize and enrich their strategic partnership.
Susilo expressed satisfaction with the Indonesia-China relations in recent years. He said the friendship between people is an important pillar of the bilateral strategic partnership. The exchanges and cooperation between the governments, parliaments and localities are based on people-to-people friendship. Indonesia is willing to further strengthen all-round friendly cooperation with China and promote their respective national development through this cooperation. He spoke highly of the achievements China has made in economic and social development, saying that a growing and stable China will play a significant role in maintaining peace, stability and development of the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.
