On March 24, 2012, Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with visiting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Beijing. Li first welcomed Susilo's visit to China. He said that since President Hu Jintao and President Susilo announced the establishment of strategic partnership between the two countries in 2005, China-Indonesia relations have entered a new period of rapid and comprehensive development. China and Indonesia are both major developing countries, with broad common interests and great potential for cooperation. "China has attached great importance to its ties with Indonesia and hopes to work closely with the country to push for greater achievements of strategic partnership" he said. Li said party-to-party exchanges serve as an important part of bilateral strategic partnership. The CPC is ready to further enhance exchanges and cooperation with Indonesia's ruling coalition led by the Democratic Party and share experience in governance in order to inject new vitality into bilateral relations, Li said. Describing cultural cooperation as an important foundation for bilateral strategic partnership, Li said amity between people holds the key to the sound relations between states. He called on both countries to cement cooperation in the areas of culture, sports, tourism and media and lay a solid public opinion basis for the development of bilateral ties. Susilo agreed with Li's views on furthering bilateral ties and enhancing party-to-party and humanities exchanges, especially youth contacts. He said the development of their bilateral strategic partnership has been important not only for both countries, but also for Asia and the world. The youth is the future of bilateral relations and exchange of visits between youth groups of the two countries is a good initiative. He hoped the youth of both countries will strengthen exchanges, enhance mutual understanding, learn from each other and work together to create the better future of bilateral relations. While addressing a group of young people from China and Indonesia after the meeting, Li called on the two countries' youth to keep the long-term and strategic significance of Sino-Indonesian friendly cooperation in mind, inherit glorious tradition and shoulder a historical responsibility to push forward bilateral friendly cooperation. Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Wang Xiao, executive secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China & President of the All-China Youth Federation and Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Liu Jianchao accompanied Li during the above events.
