The Shanghai Cooperation Organization Holds the Vice-Minister Level Consultation on Regional Security Issues

On March 30, 2012, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held a round of vice-minister level consultation on regional security issues in Beijing. The representatives of SCO member states, SCO observer states and Afghanistan attended the consultation. Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping chaired the consultation.
The parties had an in-depth exchange of views on the regional security situation of common concern and agreed that regional cooperation should be strengthened to maintain regional security, stability and development.
The parties expressed their concern over the situation in Afghanistan and pointed out that the SCO will continue to assist the Afghan people in rebuilding their country and that the SCO supports their efforts in building Afghanistan into an independent, peaceful, prosperous country.
