Spokesperson on Shintaro Ishihara's remarks of China being the biggest threat of Japan
2000/11/15

Q: While being interviewed by a German media recently, mayor of Tokyo Shintaro Ishihara went so far as to say that China was the biggest threat of Japan and that it was better for China to split into several small states. He also said that Japan should work to promote this process. What is the comment from the Chinese side?

A: We express our strong indignation towards the vicious remarks once again uttered by Shintaro Ishihara which were hostile to China and the Chinese people. His remarks can be traced back to the evil intention of the Japanese militarists who would like to dismember and annex China at the time. It once again laid bare his ugly face of being the reminiscent of the Japanese militarists. Since the founding of the new China and the reform and opening up in particular, China's economy has grown rapidly and the people's livelihood markedly improved. Facts have already proved and will continue to prove that the growth and development of China can never be reversed by any force. The arrogant remark made by Ishihara is nothing but idiotic nonsense and forever doomed to failure.
