Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Death of Gaddafi's Son and Others in NATO's Air Strikes

2011/05/02

Q: NATO launched air strikes against Gaddafi's residence in Bab al-Aziziya compound, Tripoli on April 30, in which, according to Libyan Government Spokesman, Gaddafi's youngest son Saif al-Arab Gaddafi and three grand children died, but Gaddafi himself was unscathed. What is China's comment?

A: China has noted the report of the death of Gaddafi's son Saif Gaddafi and others in the strikes. We express concern over the escalation of conflicts in Libya and ensuing civilian casualties. China always disapproves of any action that goes beyond the authorization of the UN Security Council and calls on relevant parties to cease fire as soon as possible so as to resolve the current crisis politically through dialogue, negotiation and other peaceful means.
