Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Weimin's Remarks on Japan's Plan to Name the Affiliated Islands of the Diaoyu Island

2012/01/30

Q: It is reported that Japan is going to name some uninhabited islands including the affiliated islands of the Diaoyu Island. Up till now, the names have been internally decided on and will be formally marked on the map before the end of March. How does China comment?

A: The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times. China enjoys indisputable sovereignty over them. China has made solemn representations with Japan over the latter's plan to name the affiliated islands and reefs of the Diaoyu Island. Any unilateral action of Japan over the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands is illegal and invalid.
