Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Weimin's Remarks on the Japanese Government's Plan to "Buy" the Diaoyu Islands

2012/07/08

Q: According to Japanese media reports, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said on July 7 that in order to keep a stable management over the Diaoyu Islands, the Japanese government is having a comprehensive study of buying and "nationalizing" relevant islands. What is China's comment?

A: The Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands have been China's inherent territory since ancient times, for which China has indisputable historical and jurisprudential evidence. Nobody is ever allowed to trade in China's sacred territory. The Chinese Government will continue to take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard its sovereignty over the Diaoyu Island and its affiliated islands.
