Ethiopia Supports the Adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by China's National People's Congress

2005/03/18

On March 16, 2005, Speaker of the Federal Council of the Ethiopian Parliament Mulatu sent messages to Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman Jia Qinglin of the Chinese People's Political and Consultative Congress respectively to support the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by China's National People's Congress on behalf of the Federal Council of the Ethiopian Parliament.

According to Mulatu, the Anti-Secession Law is aimed at the peaceful resolution of the Taiwan question and the peaceful reunification of China, which will contribute to the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and in the world at large. Based on this understanding as well as the one-China policy which Ethiopia has long been upholding, Ethiopia understands and supports the efforts made by the Chinese government and people to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, the Asia Pacific region and even the world at large and to realize peaceful reunification of the country.
