Australia Group (AG) was established in 1985. The purpose of AG is to prevent the proliferation of biological and chemical weapons. AG currently has 40 participants (including the European Commission).

As an informal multinational export control arrangement in the biological and chemical field, AG has played certain positive role in preventing the proliferation of biological and chemical weapons and their related items and technologies. China has drawn upon the Guidelines and Control Lists of AG in formulating its biological and chemical export control regulations and control lists.

China attaches importance to the development of relations with AG. China and AG held three rounds of consultations in March 2004, March 2005 and June 2006 respectively.
