On Aug. 16, 2013, President Vladimir Putin of Russia met with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Sochi.
Putin asked Yang Jiechi to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. Putin expressed that he and President Xi Jinping had agreed to make utmost efforts in pushing forward Russia-China relations to a higher level. Russia has the will and confidence to work with China to fully implement the plans for the development of bilateral relationship, to keep close high-level exchanges, to deepen practical cooperation, to strengthen communication and cooperation on international affairs, so as to jointly safeguard global and regional peace and stability.
Putin noted that he is very much looking forward to President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia next month for the G20 St. Petersburg Summit and a meeting with President Xi Jinping. They will exchange views on bilateral relationship as well as major international and regional affairs, to further promote bilateral cooperation on key projects. Both sides will also continue the joint efforts to contribute to the success of SCO Bishkek Summit, in order to safeguard regional security and stability, and to promote common development for SCO member states.
Yang Jiechi conveyed the sincere greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping to Putin. Yang Jiechi expressed that President Xi Jinping paid a successful state visit to Russia in March this year, and with President Putin, set the overall direction for the development of bilateral relations. The two sides have been actively implementing the important consensus reached between the two heads of state and have made new important progresses for the cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, energy, people-to-people exchanges and local contacts. The China-Russia relationship has continued to develop in an all-dimensional way. China places great importance on President Xi Jinping attending the G20 St. Petersburg Summit and meeting with President Putin. The Chinese side will fully support and cooperate with the Russian side for successfully hosting the Summit and will work with the Russian side to well prepare for the meeting between the two heads of state. It is believed that under the guidance of the two heads of state, the China-Russia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership will surely step forward unceasingly.
