On Aug. 22, 2013, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met at Zhongnanhai with visiting Foreign Minister Murray McCully of New Zealand.
Yang Jiechi said that China-New Zealand relations have made remarkable progress in recent years. Both sides should adhere to the strategic and long-term perspective, explore new way of thinking, tap potentials, broaden areas for bilateral cooperation, so as to push for greater development of China-New Zealand comprehensive cooperative relationship. Hope New Zealand will properly manage the issues concerning the safety of its dairy products and other food products exported to China, to effectively protect the interests of Chinese consumers.
McCully said that New Zealand highly values the relations with China and is committed to maintaining the strong growth momentum of New Zealand-China relations. New Zealand will take strict measures to step up regulatory oversight of the dairy industry to ensure food safety and to truly restore the confidence of Chinese consumers with their actual deeds.
They as well exchanged views on international and regional affairs of mutual interest.
