On 30 October 2013, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani.
Xi Jinping said that in recent years China-Iran relations have enjoyed a sound growth momentum with fruitful exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in all fields. Under the current situation, promoting sound development of China-Iran relations is not only conducive to the common interest of the two countries, but will also have positive impact on peace and stability in the Middle East region. China unswervingly views China-Iran relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and is ready to work with Iran to inherit and carry forward China-Iran traditional friendship so as to push for healthy and stable development of bilateral friendly cooperative relations in all fields.
Xi Jinping said that with the joint efforts of Iran and all other parties concerned, some positive changes have emerged in the situation of the Iranian nuclear issue. The Chinese side expresses welcome for this and will continue to play a constructive role in pushing for peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue within the G5+1 mechanism.
Larijani conveyed the cordial greetings from Iranian Supreme Leader Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rowhani to President Xi Jinping. He said that the Iranian government has realized the smooth change of the leadership, opening up a new chapter for Iran-China relations. Iran pursues the Look East Policy and attaches great importance to developing relations with China. Iran looks forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with China in the fields of economy, trade, energy and investment.
Larijani introduced to President Xi Jinping Iran's views on the Iranian nuclear issue and the regional situation.
Wang Chen, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, was present at the meeting.
