On the evening of December 10 local time, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong, who just arrived in Myanmar, held talks with Vice President U Nyan Tun of Myanmar in Nay Pyi Taw. They exchanged in-depth views on strengthening bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
U Nyan Tun extended warm welcome to Vice Premier Liu Yandong coming to Myanmar for the 27th Southeast Asian Games and thanked China for providing technological support for Myanmar to host the Games.
Liu Yandong expressed that she is very glad to see China and Myanmar successfully carrying out cultural and sports cooperation and extended her wishes for a full success of the Games. Liu Yandong said, China and Myanmar are traditional friendly neighbours, enjoying the profound "paukphaw" friendship. It has been proved that the long-term stable development of China-Myanmar relations conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and of the two peoples. It is worthy to be cherished and guarded by both sides. China will earnestly implement the important consensus reached between the state leaders of the two countries and, in accordance with their respective development strategies, work with Myanmar to promote mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields so as to unswervingly advance the cause of China-Myanmar friendship.
Liu Yandong said, China-Myanmar relations are rooted in the people and the long-term stable development of China-Myanmar relations is inseparable from the understanding and support from the two peoples. China is ready to work with Myanmar to continue various exchanges and cooperation in the fields of education, health, culture, sports, media, film and television products and religion so as to push forward China-Myanmar people-to-people and cultural exchanges to a new high and to lay a solid foundation of public opinion for long-term development of bilateral relations.
U Nyan Tun expressed that to develop relations of friendly neighbours with China is one of the cornerstones of Myanmar's foreign policy. Myanmar and China enjoys a long history of friendship and the both sides understand and support each other for their own process of change or reform. It has laid an important foundation for the two countries to develop friendly cooperative relations in the new era. Myanmar is committed to promoting Myanmar-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and agrees with China for the ideas and specific initiatives on promoting cooperation. Hope the state leaders of the two countries will keep the tradition of regular exchanges of visits. It is believed that the parliaments, militaries, political parties, cultural and sports sectors of the two countries will actively carry out equal and mutually beneficial exchanges and strengthen cooperation in economy, trade and other fields.
Following the meeting, Liu Yandong and Vice President U Nyan Tun jointly witnessed the signing of the agreement on economic and technological cooperation as well as of exchanges of notes on a number of material and technological cooperation projects.
