On the afternoon of May 24, 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

The two sides exchanged views mainly on the draft resolution for the Iraqi issue in the making at the UN Security Council. Li stressed that relevant resolution should be conducive to realizing "Iraqi people governing Iraq" as soon as possible and to the UN's major role in Iraq. The two sides agreed to continue to enhance consultations and cooperation on the Iraqi issue.
