On January 10, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a message to Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Mahmoud Abbas to congratulate him on his election as new President of the Palestinian National Authority.

Hu Jintao said that he believes the Palestinian people will, under the leadership of President Abbas, unite as one and overcome the difficulties to make new achievements in the lofty cause of resuming their legitimate national rights. The Chinese government and people will, as always, support the righteous undertakings of the Palestinians and continue the efforts to push for an early and fair resolution of the issue of Palestine.
