State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan went to the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse to make official calls to visiting Prime Minister Lee Hae-chan of ROK this morning. Tang Jiaxuan said that the Chinese side attaches great importance to China-ROK relationship and is willing to work with the Korean side to advance the sustained and healthy development of China-ROK comprehensive partnership. The Chinese side insists on peacefully resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogues and negotiations and expresses our appreciation for the unremitting efforts by the Korean side. The Chinese side supports the continued improvement of the relations between the north and the south of the Korean Peninsula. Tang Jiaxuan emphasized that the Chinese side is willing to work with the related parties to improve the occasion, promote the early resumption of the six-party talks of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and make positive progress. Lee noted that he visited China over 20 times. He witnessed China's rapid development and experienced the rich fruits of ROK-China cooperation. ROK and China hold the same opinion and stand on realizing the goal of denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The Korean side sings high praise for China's important and positive role and will continue to make joint efforts with related sides to restart the six-party talks so soon as possible. Both sides exchanged views on the reform of UN and agreed that the reform of UN should be all-round and multi-faceted with the focus upon maintaining the authority of UN, increasing the efficiency of UN and promoting the resolving of development problems. The reform of the Security Council should give priority to strengthening the representation of developing countries and adhere to the principle of arriving at the broadest common consensus on related proposals.
