On August 23, 2005, Vice Foreign Minister Qiao Zonghuai met in the foreign ministry building with the delegation led by Churilin the Director –General of the Department of History and Document of the Russian Foreign Ministry who came to China for consultations.

Qiao made positive remarks on the progress of China-Russia relations in recent years and stressed that the Chinese side attaches great importance to the collection of documents on the China-Russia relations from 1949 to 1955 to be complied and published jointly by China and Russia. He hoped that related departments of both sides would collaborate closely, strengthen consultations and work together to push forward the work.
