Having been informed of the riot in Solomon Islands, the state leaders were greatly concerned of the safety of life and property of overseas Chinese there. President Hu Jintao, who is on a state visit to Morocco, and Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council made important instructions on protecting the personal safety of the overseas Chinese in Solomon Islands. According to the instructions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated the emergent response mechanism and provided a large amount of timely assistance to the suffering Chinese through Chinese embassies and consulates in Papua New Guinea and other countries. Considering the current situation in Solomon and the requirements of the Chinese there, the central government made a decision to charter foreign commercial aircrafts to pick up the Chinese, send them to Papua New Guinea by groups, and then designate the chartered plane of China Southern Airlines to pick up them in Papua New Guinea. Tang Bingquan extended his kind regards to the returned Chinese citizens on behalf of the CPC Provincial Committee of Guangdong and the People's Government of Guangdong. He said that the riot in Solomon Islands caused huge loss of properties to the Chinese citizens living in Solomon Islands and seriously threatened their personal safety. The government and people of Guangdong have been following closely the development of the situation and have never forgotten the safety of our Chinese fellows. We are very sympathetic with and anxious of the suffering of our Chinese fellows in Solomon Islands. Now you have come back home safe and sound, for which we feel relieved. The government of Guangdong and related government agencies will take active measures to properly place our Chinese fellows according to the instructions of the CPC Central Committee. With the great care and considerate arrangement of the government of Guangdong, the returned Chinese citizens have been properly placed. As arranged by the government of Hong Kong SAR, Hong Kong residents will return to Hong Kong by bus after a short stay in Guangzhou. The overseas Chinese appreciated the Chinese government and the fellow countrymen for their care and love.
