On October 25, 2006, Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong held talks with visiting Argentine Vice President Daniel Osvaldo Scioli at the Great Hall of the People. Zeng made positive comments on bilateral ties and expressed satisfaction with the continuously expanded cooperation between both sides since the establishment of diplomatic ties 34 years ago, especially since the launch of strategic partnership in 2004. Zeng appreciated the Argentine government's adherence to the one-China policy. Under the current circumstances, the two countries, as large developing nations, should seize opportunity and strengthen cooperation, which not only complies with the fundamental interests of the two countries, but also benefits peace and development of the world, said Zeng. Zeng hoped the two countries will make joint efforts to lift China-Argentina strategic partnership to a new height. Scioli thanked for the Chinese side's warm invitation and incomparable hospitality. Argentina-China relations are at a stage of sound development and the Argentine government and people hold profound feelings for China and give priority to the relations with China in their foreign policy, said Scioli. Argentina thanks for China's support in a range of important issues, Scioli said, adding that the Latin American nation is willing to cement ties with China in view of its rapid economic development and social stability. Scioli reiterated Argentina's firm adherence to the one-China policy. Both sides also exchanged views on experience in governing the country and promoting coordinated economic and social development, as well as on international and regional issues of common interest. Prior to the talks, Zeng held a welcome ceremony for Scioli at the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People. Vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Cheng Siwei, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Abdul'ahat Abdulrixit and other officials attended the ceremony.
