Zeng Peiyan Attends the Closing Ceremony of the Conference of Entrepreneurs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Project Signing Ceremony

On November 5, 2006, the 2nd Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) concluded in Beijing. Zeng Peiyan, Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the closing ceremony of the Conference and the project signing ceremony.

At the signing ceremony, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the Union of African Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Agriculture and Professions (UACCIAP) signed a cooperation agreement on the establishment of China-Africa Joint Chamber of Commerce. Eleven Chinese enterprises including China Development Bank, China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Co. (CATIC) and China Non-ferrous Metal Mining Group signed 14 cooperation agreements totaling US$1.9 billion with African enterprises. The cooperation projects cover infrastructure construction, exports of communications equipment and technical equipment, resources exploration, finance and insurance and involve 11 African countries which are Ethiopia, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Seychelles, Lesotho, and Cape Verde.

Prior to the closing ceremony, Zeng also met with 9 distinguished guests from African countries including Zambia's Foreign Minister Mundia Sikatana, Lesotho's Minister of Finance and Development Planning Timothy Thahane, Nigeria's Minister of Finance Nenadi Usman, Uganda's Minister of Finance Ezra Suruma, Kenya's Minister of Trade & Industry Mukhisa Kituyi, Seychelles's Minister for Investment, Industry and Technology Jacquelin Dugasse, Cape Verde's Minister of Economy, Growth and Competitiveness Joao Pereira Silva and Ethiopia's Minister of Water Resources Adugna Jebessa and visited the China-Africa Anti-Malaria Exhibition.

Chairman of CCPIT Wan Jifei addressed the closing ceremony. The heads of related organizations were also present at the closing ceremony and the project signing ceremony.

On the morning, over 1,500 business delegates from China and Africa exchanged views concerning cooperation in 14 areas including agriculture, mining, energy, water irrigation, construction, transport, automobiles, electronics, communications, machines, textile, light industry, medicine and finance.
