Zeng Qinghong Meets with Albanian Foreign Minister Mustafaj

2006/11/29

On November 29, 2006, Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong met with visiting Albanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Besnik Mustafaj at the Great Hall of the People.

Albania was one of the first countries to forge diplomatic relations with the New China, and had made historical contribution to the resumption of China's legal seat in the United Nations. Zeng said the Sino-Albanian relations had progressed rapidly in recent years, marked by high-level political exchanges, expanded mutually beneficial cooperation on economy, trade, education, culture, radio and television, and close coordination in international affairs. Zeng appreciated Albania's adherence to the one-China policy, expressing belief that Albania will continue to support China's reunification in the future. "China values traditional friendship with Albania, and will work with Albania to push forward bilateral pragmatic cooperation in all areas for the benefit of both peoples based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs," Zeng said.

Mustafaj said the Albanian government attaches great importance to developing ties with China and admires China's enormous achievements in its reform and opening up endeavor. Expressing appreciation for China's important role in international affairs, Mustafaj said Albania would like to expand friendly cooperation with China in all areas. The Albanian government will, as always, adhere to the one-China policy, and support China's reunification cause, he said.

Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui attended the meeting.
