The Fifth Round of Beijing Six-party Talks Wraps Up Adopting a Document on the Initial Step to Implement the Joint Statement

On the afternoon of February 13, 2007, the plenary session and closing ceremony of the third phase of the fifth round of six-party talks were held in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Wu Dawei, Chairman of the session, head of the Chinese delegation and Vice Chinese Foreign Minister hosted the meeting.

With the concerted efforts of all parties, the meeting reached important consensus on the initial step to implement the joint statement, which marks a major and solid stride of the six-party talks and towards the denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and is conducive to peace, stability and development of the Peninsula and Northeast Asia, improving and developing relations between relevant countries and building the new pattern of a harmonious Northeast Asia, said Wu.

Wu expressed admiration to the negotiators for their positive attitude of taking the overall situation into account, showing flexibility and meeting each other half way and constructive efforts in the process of talks and hope that each party fulfills its corresponding obligation, starts related work as soon as possible and implement various actions and measures for the initial stage.

Wu indicated hope that the six parties work together to fill away and navigate the ship of the six-party talks towards the shore of peace, development and win-win cooperation.

All the delegates stood up and applauded to adopt the document on the initial step to implement the joint statement and decided to hold the sixth round of the six-party talks in Beijing on March 19.
