On May 28, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan met with a delegation headed by Nirj Deva, Chairman of the EU-China Friendship Group in the European Parliament, who is visiting China at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Both sides made positive comments on China-EU ties and bilateral parliamentary exchanges, agreeing that they will be committed to expanding and deepening China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. Kong also briefed upon request on China's principled position on such issues as energy, environmental protection, counter-terrorism, SCO, China-Russia ties, the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and the Iranian nuclear issue.
