China and the United States Reach Agreements on the Annexes of the MoU on the Cooperation in the Super-Large Port Plan

In the latter half of May, the representatives from China Customs and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of China and the representatives from the Department of Energy of the United States held the 5th round of technical talks on the Super-Large Port Plan. Both sides reached agreements on the 11 annexes of the MoU between China Customs and AQSIQ of China and the Department of Energy of the United States on the Cooperation in Preventing Illegal Trafficking of Nuclear and Other Radioactive Materials and signed the minutes. The Super-Large Port Plan aims at installing detecting systems in relevant ports to prevent the illegal trafficking of nuclear and other radioactive materials. It is an important part of China-US cooperation in the field of counter terrorism. China and the United States signed the MoU in November 2005. The technical negotiations on the annexes of the MoU started in February 2006. The completion of the technical negotiations is an important step forward for the bilateral cooperation in the Super-Large Port Plan and symbolizes that the Plan has entered the implementation phase.
