The Second Meeting of the Steering Committee for China-EU Consultations Held in Beijing

2007/11/09

On November 9, 2007, the steering committee for negotiations on China-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and the improvement of Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation signed in 1985 convened its second meeting in Beijing. Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Quan and João Aguiar Machado, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for External Relations of the European Commission, co-chaired the meeting. Both sides reviewed the positive achievements made in negotiations since the steering committee's first meeting in May, holding that with the expanding and deepening of China-EU ties, negotiations are of great significance to increasing strategic consensus, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation and pushing forward China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides agreed to advance negotiations in an active and steady manner. They held in-depth discussions on some specific articles and also negotiated on the preparations for the 10th China-EU leaders' meeting, pledging to make joint efforts to ensure a complete success of the meeting.

The steering committee for China-EU negotiations is the highest-level consultation mechanism facilitating the signing of China-EU Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and the improving of Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation signed in 1985.
