Hu Jintao Meets with ROK Prime Minister

On the afternoon of December 11, 2007, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with ROK Prime Minister Han Duck Soo at the Great Hall of the People and both sides held talks in a friendly atmosphere.

Hu said Sino-ROK relations had developed rapidly and cooperation in all fields strengthened since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 15 years ago. He praised the activities between the two countries to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Sino-ROK ties and the Exchange Year, which he said were very successful and well received by the two peoples. Both sides were satisfied with the positive progress made in bilateral ties, said Hu.

Hu said that currently both China and the ROK are at an important stage for development and strengthening their comprehensive and cooperative partnership conformed to the common aspiration and fundamental interest of the two peoples, and was conducive to regional and world peace, stability and prosperity. Hu said China would like to work with the ROK to maintain the good momentum in the bilateral relations and create a better future for a comprehensive and cooperative partnership.

Han Duck Soo first conveyed the sincere regards from President Roh Moo-hyun. He said the comprehensive and cooperative partnership between the ROK and China had developed in an all-round way. The ROK government and people admire the achievements made by China in development and look forward to a successful Olympic Games in Beijing next year. He praised China for its important and positive efforts to push forward the six-party talks process. The ROK remains committed to deepening bilateral comprehensive cooperative partnership and would like to work with China to ensure peace and prosperity in northeast Asia, he added.

Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and other officials attended the meeting.
