Foreign Ministry Holds New Year Solidarity with the Chinese Offices of the UN and Other International Organizations

The Foreign Ministry held the New Year solidarity between China and the Chinese offices of the United Nations and other international organizations in Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on the evening of December 18, 2007. About 150 people including Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Assistant Foreign Minister He Yafei and the heads of the Chinese offices of the UNDP, the FAO, UNFPA, UNICEF, the WHO and other international organizations were present at the event.
Yang said that the United Nations, as the most universal, representative and authoritative international organization, is the most important platform to practice multilateralism. China supports a bigger role of the UN in the international affairs and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the UN and the Chinese offices of other international organizations in a bid to promote the common development of China and the rest of the world.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the UN and other international organizations, Khalid Malik, UN Resident Coordinator in China and UNDP Resident Representative said that the UN attaches importance to the role of China on major international issues, admires the vision raised by China of building a harmonious world and is willing to reinforce the partnership with China to advance the implementation of the UN millennium goals and jointly cope with various global threats and challenges. The Chinese offices of the UN will continue to support China's economic and social progress in line with China's development strategies.
