On January 29, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Chinese Foreign Ministry with visiting Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere. Both sides had an in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and other issues of mutual concern.
Yang said the current China-Norway relations develop well with frequent exchanges of high-level visits and sound coordination in international and regional affairs. Bilateral pragmatic cooperation on economy and trade, climate change, environmental protection, polar studies, culture and education has been deepened, he said. China appreciates Norway's adherence to the one-China policy and will make joint efforts with Norway to push bilateral relations to a new level, Yang said. Echoing Yang's comments on bilateral ties, Stoere said the Norwegian government attaches great importance to ties with China and firmly adheres to the one-China policy. The new China strategy launched last year called for expanding cooperation with China in an all-round manner. Norway hopes to promote bilateral economic and trade ties through Free Trade Area negotiation and taking part in the Shanghai World Expo. Norway also seeks to step up cooperation with China in the areas of climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development, Stoere added.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern. Stoere is scheduled to pay an official visit to China from Jan. 28 to 30, at the invitation of Yang.
