Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo Meets with Ambassadors of a Number of EU Countries and EU "Troika" to China

On February 1, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Wu Hongbo in the Chinese Foreign Ministry met respectively with Slovak Ambassador to China Zigmund Bertok, Swedish Ambassador to China Mikael Lindstrom and EU "Troika" Ambassadors to China-Marjan Cencen, Ambassador of Slovenia which is the rotating EU presidential country, Herve Ladsous, Ambassador of France, the elected EU presidential country and Ambassador Serge Abou, head of delegation of the European Commission.

Wu made positive comments on the development of China's relations with Slovakia, Sweden and EU, stressing that China attaches great importance to developing ties with the two countries and the EU and is ready to work with them to deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all areas and push the ties for new results. Wu appreciated the governments of Slovakia and Sweden as well as the EU for always adhering to the one-China policy and hoped that they will continue to oppose the separatist activities aimed at "Taiwan independence" and express public and clear opposition to Taiwan's "referendum on U.N. membership".

The Slovak, Swedish and EU "Troika" Ambassadors said they attach great importance to developing ties with China and are ready to join hands with China to push bilateral ties and China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level. The ambassadors reaffirmed adherence to the one-China policy and support of China's peaceful reunification.
