On April 21, 2008, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi met with visiting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Sergei A. Ordzhonikidze, exchanging views on the role and the reform of the UN, China's cooperation with the office, as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Liu said China attaches importance to and supports strengthening the role of the UN and its office at Geneva, expressing belief that this visit will help promote China's sound cooperative relations with the UN and its office at Geneva.

Ordzhonikidze made positive comments on China's increasingly important role in the UN affairs, adding that the United Nations Office at Geneva is ready to continue enhancing communication and cooperation with China.
