2008/04/28

On the morning of April 28, 2008, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Pak Ui Chun in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Both sides pledged to make joint efforts to deepen good-neighborly friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation so as to push forward bilateral ties.

On the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Yang said it was in the common interests of all parties concerned to implement the second-phase action of the six-party talks in an all-round and balanced way and to continue advancing the process of the talks. It was also the expectation of the international community, Yang told Pak. China was willing to increase communication and coordination with the DPRK to make progress in this regard, Yang said.

Pak said it was the constant position of the DPRK to de-nuclearize the Korean Peninsula and that the DPRK would like to work with all relevant parties to fulfill obligations. He hailed the efforts China had made in the process of the six-party talks as the host country, expressing his country's willingness to maintain sound communication and cooperation with China.
