Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui Chairs the 4th Meeting of Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee (CKCC)

On June 12, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui, also Chairman of the Chinese side of Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee (CKCC), and Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan B. Yermekbayev, also Chairman of the Kazakh side of Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the CKCC, co-chaired the 4th meeting of Security Cooperation Subcommittee. Representatives from the departments of foreign affairs, national defense, public security (internal affairs) and security of the two countries attended the meeting. Both sides made positive comments on the achievements made on bilateral security cooperation since the third meeting of subcommittee and set the focus and tasks for the next-phase work. Both sides decided to keep closer exchanges between departments of defense, law enforcement and security, intensify the fight against the "three forces", drug trafficking and transnational organized crimes and enhance security coordination within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other multilateral frameworks, so as to jointly safeguard security and stability of the two countries and the region as a whole. They pointed out that to ensure the security of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 is a common responsibility of the two countries. The two sides pledged to conduct in-depth security cooperation for the Olympics, remove all hidden troubles and make the games a grand sport event.

Following the meeting, Li and Yermekbayev signed a summary of the 4th meeting of Security Cooperation Subcommittee of the China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Committee (CKCC).
