State Councilor Dai Bingguo Meets with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

2008/06/30

On June 30, 2008, State Councilor Dai Bingguo met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Dai said: Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 30 years ago, bilateral ties has been moving all the way forward despite some twists and turns. China and the United States are not only stakeholders, but also constructive partners. The development of China-U.S. relationship to today's level is closely linked with the direct care and promotion of the leaders and the support and participation of the people. The 3-decade-long history can provide us with valuable experiences and inspirations, which are worthy of summarizing and bearing in mind.

Dai said: Currently, China-U.S. relationship is in an important transitional period. Both sides should, from a strategic and long-term perspective, continue to maintain high-rank exchanges, increase strategic mutual trust, respect and take care of each other's core interest and major concerns so as to advance cooperation in bilateral affairs and major regional and international issues and push the China-U.S. constructive partnership forward.

Rice said: The development of China-U.S. relations in the past 3 decades can hardly be imagined 30 years ago. It did give people many important inspirations. The China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue, China-U.S. Strategic Dialogue, and the six-party talks played positive roles in increasing mutual trust and cooperation in all fronts and resolving related regional issues. It is proved by facts that the cooperation between China and the United States is very important for the resolution of international challenges and problems.

Rice said: The U.S. hopes to see a prosperous, confident and strong China and the U.S. hopes that China succeeds in the reform. The Bush administration will make constant efforts to maintain the good momentum of China-U.S. relationship in the coming 6 months and strive to push bilateral ties forward after the general election in the U.S.
