Wang Qishan Meets with ASEAN Leaders on the Sidelines of the 5th China-ASEAN Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit

On October 21, 2008, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan met respectively with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Myanmar’s Prime Minister General Thein Sein, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai and Lao Vice President Boungnang Volachit, who are here for the fifth China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Expo and the China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual concerns.

Wang spoke highly of China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. He emphasized that the friendly relations between China and the ASEAN countries have been continuously developed, with mutual political trust enhanced and beneficial cooperation in economic, trade and investment areas deepened. "We have cooperated well in regional and international affairs and we are good neighbors, good friends and good partners," he said. Wang said China will work together with the ASEAN countries to advance bilateral cooperation and contribute to the regional prosperity and stability, particularly in time of global financial fluctuations.

The ASEAN leaders warmly congratulated China on the complete success of the Beijing Olympic Games and the Shenzhou-7 manned space mission, as well as China’s enormous achievements over the past three decades of reform and opening up. They spoke highly of the role of the China-ASEAN Expo and Business and Investment Summit in promoting cooperation between China and ASEAN countries. The ASEAN leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of China-ASEAN relations, adding that they looked forward to deepening good-neighborly friendship and all-round cooperation with China in the new situation.

Following the meeting, Wang Qishan visited exhibit halls of the Expo and attended the opening ceremony of the exhibit hall of Cambodia, this year’s theme country.
