On February 14, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao sent a congratulatory message to Zillur Rahman on his inauguration as president of Bangladesh.

Hu said in the message that China and Bangladesh are friendly close neighbors. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 34 years ago, the two countries have enjoyed mutual trust and equality and made remarkable achievements in exchanges and cooperation in various fields, Hu said. He said the two countries have also maintained mutual support and close coordination on international and regional affairs. Hu said China is willing to join hands with Bangladesh to consolidate the traditional friendship and strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to promote the China-Bangladesh comprehensive cooperative partnership to a new high.
