On February 17, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao left Port Louis, capital of Mauritius, wrapping up his five-nation "journey of friendship and cooperation". During his visit to Mauritius, Hu held talks with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam and met with Mauritian President Anerood Jugnauth and other leaders. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties, how to deal with the global financial crisis and other international and regional issues of common concern. President Hu also visited the Chinese Culture Center in Mauritius. The tour, which started on Feb. 10, has also taken him to Saudi Arabia, Mali, Senegal and Tanzania. During his trip, Hu met leaders of the five countries on the further development of friendship and cooperation. China and the five countries signed a series of cooperation documents during Hu's visit. During his meeting with Malian President Toure, Hu pointed out that currently the international situation is undergoing profound and complex changes and China-Africa relations are at a crucial stage of development. Hu said that as the world financial crisis has posed severe challenges, it is of greater significance to step up China-Africa solidarity and cooperation. On behalf of the Chinese government, Hu vowed to earnestly implement various aid measures announced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). China will increase aid to African countries within the ability, cancel part of their debts, and expand trade with and investment in these countries in a bid to strengthen China-Africa pragmatic cooperation. On the morning of February 16, 2009, President Hu Jintao delivered an important speech to a welcome conference attended by people from various sectors of Dar es Salaam. He stressed the Chinese people cherish their traditional friendship with Africa in the past, now and in the future, always take the African people as completely trustworthy and all-weather friends and will maintain brotherhood and partnership with the African people forever.
