Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui Meets with Blomeyer-Bartenstein, Commissioner for Asian Affairs at the German Federal Foreign Office

2009/04/24

On April 23, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui met in the Foreign Ministry with Blomeyer-Bartenstein, Commissioner for Asian Affairs at the German Federal Foreign Office.

During the meeting, Li said with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Germany relations have currently maintained a sound momentum of development. Premier Wen Jiabao's successful visit to Germany earlier in the year strongly pushed forward bilateral ties. The Chinese government's sending of the purchasing mission to Germany and other European countries indicated the great importance that China attached to ties with Germany. The Chinese government has always viewed and dealt with ties with Germany from a long-term and strategic perspective. Amid the spreading global financial crisis, China is ready to work with Germany to enhance communication, deepen cooperation, properly handle major concerns of each other and push for sound, stable development of bilateral mutually beneficial and cooperative relations.

Blomeyer-Bartenstein said Premier Wen's successful visit to Germany not only strongly promoted the development of bilateral ties, but also sent a clear signal to the international community. Germany fully agreed with China's position on opposing trade and investment protectionism, holding that against the background of the current global financial crisis, it is particularly important to comprehensively deepen Germany-China cooperation. He expressed hope that both sides will strengthen cooperation, jointly cope with the challenges and contribute to the international financial stability and world economic growth.

Both sides also exchanged views on China-EU relations and other issues of common concern.
