Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui Meets with Miroslav Jenca, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA)

On May 26, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui at request met with Miroslav Jenca, Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA). Both sides exchanged views on the work of UNRCCA and the situation in Central Asia.

Li made positive comments on the efforts of UNRCCA since its establishment over a year ago, saying that China closely follows the activities of UNRCCA and supports its constructive role in helping Central Asian countries prevent crises and conflicts. China is ready to keep close contact with UNRCCA to safeguard and promote peace, stability and development of Central Asia.

Jenca said since its establishment, UNRCCA has actively committed to establishing links with Central Asian governments, coordinated regional cooperation on exploitation and utilization of water and energy resources and advocated combating terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking. The center hopes to maintain close communication and coordination with China and strengthen cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other international organizations, he added.
