Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Meets with FAO Director-General Diouf

On June 2, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with Jacques Diouf, visiting Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), exchanging views on food security and China's cooperation with FAO.
Yang elaborated on China's views on promoting world food security, pointing out that amid the global financial crisis, developing countries are facing more grave challenges in the field of food security. He called for joint efforts of the international community to cope with the challenges. China is ready to continue working closely with FAO to contribute to achieving world food security and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Yang said. Diouf highly praised China's positive contributions to promoting global food security and briefed on the proposal to hold a world summit on food security this November in Rome. Yang said that the proposal for the summit is of great positive significance, which is supported by the Chinese side.
