Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Afghan Foreign Minister

On June 11, 2009, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks in the Foreign Ministry with visiting Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta. China and Afghanistan are traditional friendly neighbors who share mutual respect and support, said Yang. The two countries have always lived in harmony and amity with each other. He praised the remarkable achievements of bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the areas of trade, security and humanities. The two have also maintained close coordination in regional and international issues, Yang said. China thanked Afghanistan for its support on Taiwan- and Tibet-related issues, said Yang, stressing that China was willing to further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation in all areas based on mutual benefit and win-win outcome, in a bid to push forward China-Afghanistan comprehensive cooperative partnership. Spanta said the friendship between the two countries enjoys a time-honored history and both sides have conducted sound cooperation in trade, culture and other sectors. Afghanistan attached great importance to ties with China and appreciated China's active participation in the economic reconstruction of Afghanistan, he said, adding that his country is ready to make efforts for the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides. At Yang's invitation, Spanta arrived in Beijing on June 9 for an official visit to China.
