2009/06/15

On June 15, 2009, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmon in Yekaterinburg.

During the meeting, Hu said China and Tajikistan have maintained a momentum of vigorous development in their bilateral ties with close high-level exchanges, expanded pragmatic cooperation and smoothly implemented large-scale economic, trade and transport joint projects. The two countries have always trusted and supported each other on such major issues as sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, Hu said, adding that it reflected a high level of China-Tajikistan good-neighborly, friendly and cooperative relations. He said China deems Tajikistan a sincere friend and reliable partner and stands ready to work with Tajikistan to implement the consensus and agreements reached between the two countries, boost bilateral pragmatic cooperation in a variety of fields, jointly meet the challenges brought about by the global financial crisis, push for regional economic recovery and strengthen coordination in regional and international affairs, in a bid to push bilateral ties to a new level. China is also willing to cooperate with Tajikistan in mining, agriculture and other large-scale joint projects, he said. He urged both sides to tap their advantages to expand cooperation on agricultural production, processing and soil improvement. China is ready to help Tajikistan build an agricultural technology center that is designed to increase grain output, promote personnel training and facilitate direct contact between the agricultural businesses and experts of the two countries. China hopes the two sides make efforts to improve the investment environment and protect the legitimate interests of enterprises and citizens, Hu said. The Chinese president also hoped for a strengthening of security cooperation in a bilateral framework and within the SCO to safeguard peace and stability in both countries and in the region.

Rakhmon said China is a good friend and neighbor of Tajikistan and President Hu's historic visit to the country last year achieved remarkable results. In the past year, the two countries have seen their bilateral cooperation enriched and personnel exchanges increased. Economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily, with trade volume rising continuously and the Chinese aid projects underway. Tajikistan appreciates China's brotherly support and selfless aid and is ready to enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation in agriculture, mining, finance and other areas, he said. At the meeting, Rakhmon also reiterated Tajikistan's adherence to the one-China policy, pledging that his country will continue to cooperate closely with China in combating the three evil forces of terrorism, extremism and separatism.

Ling Jihua, Wang Huning and Dai Bingguo attended the meeting.
