Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with Jordanian Foreign Minister Judeh

On August 10, 2009, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh in Amman. Yang made positive comments on the development of bilateral ties since the establishment of China-Jordan diplomatic ties 32 years ago. He said that China has always attached importance to developing friendly cooperative relations with Jordan and is ready to continue working with it to enhance bilateral friendly cooperation. To this end, both sides should build up political trust and strengthen mutual understanding and support on issues concerning core and major interests of each other. Yang urged both sides to actively expand pragmatic cooperation, tap potential of cooperation in trade, investment and other sectors, enhance cooperation within the China-Arab forum and jointly push forward China-Arab friendly cooperation. Both sides should also enhance coordination in international and regional affairs and safeguard interests of both countries and developing nations at large. Yang appreciated the Jordanian side for adhering to the one-China policy and showing understanding and support for the efforts of the Chinese government to safeguard national unity and stability. Yang introduced the truth of the July 5 riots in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, saying that China and a large majority of Islamic countries have long been showing mutual understanding and respect for each other and offered mutual support on issues involving each other's major concerns and core interests. The friendship between both sides has withstood various tests and deserves to be cherished as their common treasure. Yang Jiechi further elaborated on China's proposals on the Middle East issue. He highly praised the role that Jordan has played in maintaining regional peace and stability, saying that China has always resolutely supported the efforts of Arab countries in promoting peace and is ready to enhance coordination with the large majority of Arab countries including Jordan to work for the resolution of the Middle East issue. Judeh expressed full agreement with Yang's comments and proposals on bilateral ties. He said the Jordanian side attaches great importance to ties with China and is satisfied with the current development of bilateral ties. He said the Jordanian side looks forward to pushing forward bilateral relations by further tapping potential of cooperation. Judeh spoke highly of China's just position and active efforts in the Middle East peace issue and appreciated China for always giving priority to developing ties with Arab and Islamic countries. He said the large majority of Arab and Islamic countries cherish ties with China and take a positive attitude towards the development of Arab-China, Islamic-China relations.
