On August 11, 2009, Jordan's Prince Faisal Bin Al-Hussein met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Amman, capital of Jordan.

Prince Faisal expressed warm welcome for Yang's visit, saying that Jordan and China share very strong bilateral ties with fruitful cooperation in economy, trade and other fields. Jordan firmly adheres to the one-China policy and highly praises China's sound relations with Arab and Islamic countries. Jordan appreciates China's important role in the Middle East peace issue and looks forward to furthering Jordan-China bilateral cooperation, as well as collaboration on regional and international issues.

Yang said with the guidance of the leaders of the two countries and active promotion of the two governments, China-Jordan relations have been developing steadily over the years, with deepening mutual trust and friendship and fruitful pragmatic cooperation. China thanks the Jordanian side for its adherence to the one-China policy and support of China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing friendly relations with Jordan and is ready to work with Jordan to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, jointly cope with the challenges posed by the global financial crisis and deepen cooperation in all areas so as to push forward bilateral ties.

Yang pointed out that Jordan is an influential Arab and Islamic country, as well as an important force for peace and stability of the Middle East. China has always respected the characteristics of Islamic countries in religion and culture and supported their just cause for national independence and state sovereignty. China also supports the struggle of the Palestinian people for the restoration of their legitimate national rights and supports the proposals of the Arab countries for comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East. China is ready to enhance cooperation with Jordan to boost the development of the ties between China and the Islamic countries and push for a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the Middle East issue at an early date.
