On November 20, 2009, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Zhijun and Macedonian Deputy Foreign Minister Zoran Petrov held consultations between the two Foreign Ministries. Both sides made positive comments on the sound growth momentum of bilateral ties, expressing willingness to make joint efforts to continue enhancing pragmatic cooperation on politics, economy, culture, education and tourism. Petrov emphasized that Macedonia firmly adheres to the one-China policy and supports China's grand cause of peaceful reunification.

Both sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern including climate change and international counter-terrorism.
