On November 30, 2009, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met in Nanjing with Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, whose country currently holds the rotating EU presidency. Reinfeldt is here in China for the 12th China-EU Summit. Wen first appreciated Sweden, which holds the rotating EU presidency, over its positive efforts in successfully holding the 12th China-EU Summit. He said Sweden is the first western country to establish diplomatic ties with New China and it is also among the first countries to sign trade agreement and investment protection agreement with China. Sweden set up its first joint venture in China as early as in 1982. These "firsts" fully manifest strategic vision and pioneering spirit of the Swedish statesmen and entrepreneurs. China attaches great importance to developing ties with Sweden and is ready to take the opportunity of next year's 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties to maintain high-level exchange, deepen pragmatic cooperation and enhance humanities contacts with Sweden to push bilateral ties to a new level. Wen pointed out that China and Sweden are highly complementary in economy and are important trade partners for each other. Faced with the impact of the global financial crisis, China is ready to work with Sweden and take positive measures to stabilize bilateral trade, support the expansion of two-way investment and enhance pragmatic cooperation and exchanges on energy-saving, environmental protection and renewable energy resources in a bid to push for sound, sustained development of trade ties. Reinfeldt said that Sweden-China relations have been developing very well and bilateral exchanges are getting closer and have achieved fruitful results. Sweden is confident of China's development prospects, and encourages its businesses to invest in China and engage in cooperation with the Chinese side on energy-saving and clean energy in joint efforts to cope with climate change. Sweden supports people-to-people exchanges, especially youth contacts with China to build up mutual understanding. Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Liang Baohua, secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and Ambassador Song Zhe, Head of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Communities, attended the meeting.
