On August 10, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met respectively with Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat on a transit visit to Turkmenistan.

Yang said China attaches great importance to developing ties with Turkmenistan and deems it a sincere friend and reliable partner. China will as always respect the development path independently chosen by Turkmenistan and support Turkmenistan's unremitting efforts to promote social stability, economic growth and national harmony. China is ready to continue working with Turkmenistan to strengthen high-level visits, build strategic mutual trust and expand pragmatic cooperation and friendly exchanges on energy, transportation, communications, building materials, textiles, culture and education. China is also ready to enhance cooperation with Turkmenistan in combating the "three evil forces", drug trafficking and other transnational crimes and boost coordination in major international and regional issues in a bid to bring benefit to both countries and their peoples and safeguard regional security and stability. The Chinese side will work with Turkmenistan to well prepare for President Berdymukhamedov's China visit in the second half of this year to push bilateral friendly cooperative relations to a higher level. China appreciates Turkmenistan's adherence to the one-China policy.

The Turkmen side expressed delight with China's development achievements, saying China is a strategic partner of Turkmenistan. Both sides have conducted all-round cooperation on politics, security, economy, trade, energy, science, technology and education and share similar positions on a number of international and regional issues. Turkmenistan is ready to become China's long-term and reliable energy cooperative partner and will continue to enhance bilateral economic, trade, scientific and technological cooperation, humanities exchanges and personnel contacts. Turkmenistan will work with China to ensure the success of President Berdymukhamedov's China visit. Turkmenistan has always adhered to the one-China policy and is ready to continue cooperating with China in combating the "three evil forces".
