On December 5, 2011, Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met with Heng Samrin, president of the Cambodian National Assembly, at the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said with the personal care and support of generations of leaders of the two countries, the bilateral traditional friendship has stood the test of international vicissitudes and been deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples. He said the establishment of the China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation in 2010 initiated a new phase of bilateral ties. The two countries are good neighbors, friends, brothers and partners. China will work with Cambodia to maintain high-level visits, consolidate friendly exchanges between the governments, parliaments and parties and boost economic and trade cooperation, especially in agriculture and irrigation sectors while implementing agreed cooperation projects, Wu said. China is also ready to work with Cambodia in striving to fulfill in advance the trade growth target for 2015. He also pledged to enhance security cooperation to jointly crack down on cross-border crimes and terrorist activities. China will also strengthen coordination with Cambodia in multilateral affairs to enrich bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and bring benefits to the two peoples, he said.

On parliamentary exchanges, Wu said China's NPC is ready to maintain close exchanges with the Cambodian National Assembly and Senate, enhance exchanges of visits between special committees and friendship groups and share experience on governance, economic development and disaster-and-poverty relief to build up the friendship between both peoples and inject new vitality into state relations.

Heng Samrin spoke highly of the outcomes of Chairman Wu's visit to Cambodia last year, saying Cambodia-China unity, friendship and cooperation has been continuously consolidated and expanded and has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples. The Cambodian government, parliament and people value the traditional friendship with China and admire China's enormous achievements in its economic and social development. Cambodia is ready to work with China to push forward bilateral ties. He reaffirmed Cambodia will as always adhere to the one-China policy.
