On December 18, 2011, Assistant Foreign Minister Le Yucheng attended the 2011 symposium on the retrospect and prospect of Chinese diplomacy in Beijing and delivered a keynote speech.
Le reviewed the achievements of Chinese diplomacy in 2011. He said that against the fluctuating and complicated international situation in 2011 Chinese diplomacy firmly safeguarded the national sovereignty, security and development interest, strengthened the friendly and cooperative relations with the rest of the world and promoted world peace and development. Among major countries in the world, China is very successful in conducting diplomatic work which helps create the sound external environment for its domestic economic development and social stability. Such achievements are hard-won.
He pointed out that the international situation will continue to undergo major changes next year. China will unswervingly pursue the road of peaceful development, take an active part in global governance, strengthen domestic stability and economic growth, continue to strengthen relations with major countries, work to step up the good-neighborly friendship with surrounding countries, expand cooperation with emerging powers and developing countries and forge a favorable environment for the eighteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
During the symposium, Le received the interview of CCTV. The event is hosted by China Foreign Affairs University and organized by www.people.com.cn. More than 20 experts and scholars discussed topics of economic diplomacy, diplomacy with surrounding countries, China's relations with major powers and with developing countries and consular protection.
