President Hu Jintao's Special Envoy Chen Zhili Meets with Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Zheenbekov and Attends Reception Marking the 20th Anniversary of China-Kyrgyzstan Diplomatic Ties

On January 10, 2012, Chen Zhili, special envoy of Chinese President Hu Jintao and vice chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met with Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Asylbek Zheenbekov in Bishkek.

Chen first conveyed to Zheenbekov the cordial greetings and good wishes from Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress. She said that China attaches great importance to its relations with Kyrgyzstan and cherishes the traditional friendship between the two nations. Facts showed the deepening bilateral ties were in the interests of both countries and their peoples and also conducive to regional peace and stability, Chen said. China is willing to work with Kyrgyzstan and take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to further boost political trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and push forward the Chinese-Kyrgyz relationship of friendship and cooperation for the benefit of both countries and their peoples, Chen said.

Zheenbekov asked Chen to convey his cordial greetings and good wishes to Chairman Wu. He said the peoples of China and Kyrgyzstan shared a tradition of friendly exchanges. In the past 20 years, the two nations had pushed forward comprehensive cooperation in a wide range of areas, based on the principle of equality, mutual respect and mutual benefit, contributing to the development of both countries as well as to regional peace and stability. Zheenbekov said he hoped the two countries could take the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to intensify practical cooperation in various areas and make new contributions to common prosperity of the two countries as well as to regional stability. Zheenbekov also said the Kyrgyz Parliament had a strong desire to develop ties with the NPC. He hoped both sides will enhance communication, tap potential and push bilateral ties to a new level.

On the same day, Chen Zhili, accompanied by former Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva, attended the activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties held by Bishkek Humanities University.

Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Wang Kaiwen and Assistant Foreign Minister Le Yucheng attended the above activities.

On the evening, Chen and Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev attended and addressed a reception marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries held by the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan.
